Maintenance Building—20 kW Solar Roof
Big things often start with little steps. In 2001, BASS Electric designed and installed a 20 kW building integrated photovoltaic array at the Facility, Operation and Maintenance Building of San Francisco International Airport.
As a pilot program for later solar projects at the airport, the solar array served to:
- Educate personnel regarding local opportunity for photovoltaic (PV) generation
- Highlight ease of integrating PV systems into existing infrastructure
The PV array is comprised of UniSolar thin film collectors and a Xantrex PV Series inverter. With a successful installation, BASS Electric partnered with the airport’s engineering staff to demonstrate the potential for photovoltaic generation at the airport, which has led to further implementation of this zero-emissions technology.

Working with airport staff, we laid the groundwork for a carbon neutral future.
